Be SMART Goal Setting

Be SMART:

Specific

  • “What is it that you want to accomplish, and why?”
  • “When and where will you achieve this goal, and who will be involved in achieving it?”
  • “What are the challenges and constraints involved in achieving this goal?”

Measurable

  • “How many/how much do you want to achieve?”
  • “How will you know when you have achieved this goal (in terms of numbers)?”
  • Attainable
  • What are the steps that you need to take in order to achieve your goals?
  • Are you able to grow and expand in order to attain seemingly impossible goals?

Realistic/Relevant

  • “How will this goal help you to attain happiness or fulfillment?”
  • “Is this goal aligned with your values, strengths, and needs?”

Timely

  • “What can be done towards achieving this goal?”
  • “What can you do in the next 6 days/6 weeks/6 months?”

P.S: Each step in the action plan should cover some important information:

  • “Who” refers to the people who will help or be involved in the step
  • “When” refers to the time-frame in which the step should be completed
  • “What” refers to the actual step or change, as well as the resources that are required, in order to bring about that change
