Be SMART:
Specific
- “What is it that you want to accomplish, and why?”
- “When and where will you achieve this goal, and who will be involved in achieving it?”
- “What are the challenges and constraints involved in achieving this goal?”
Measurable
- “How many/how much do you want to achieve?”
- “How will you know when you have achieved this goal (in terms of numbers)?”
- Attainable
- What are the steps that you need to take in order to achieve your goals?
- Are you able to grow and expand in order to attain seemingly impossible goals?
Realistic/Relevant
- “How will this goal help you to attain happiness or fulfillment?”
- “Is this goal aligned with your values, strengths, and needs?”
Timely
- “What can be done towards achieving this goal?”
- “What can you do in the next 6 days/6 weeks/6 months?”
P.S: Each step in the action plan should cover some important information:
- “Who” refers to the people who will help or be involved in the step
- “When” refers to the time-frame in which the step should be completed
- “What” refers to the actual step or change, as well as the resources that are required, in order to bring about that change
